Sales and marketing recruiters covering Toronto and the province of Ontario
Toronto currently has approximately 300,000 jobs in the high technology sector. Many of those have been created in the past few years alone, and this rapid expansion has placed it at the top of the fastest growing technology markets in North America. A number of large corporations have recently set up primary locations in the city to take advantage of the unique components it offers – a factor which will undoubtedly accelerate the startup environment even more over the next few years as many individuals from these companies strike out on their own.
Key components making the region a viable location for companies seeking to establish a presence there
One of the most important factors contributing to the area’s ability to field a suitable workforce is the approach to immigration that Canada implements. Processes and programs in place make it much easier for individuals with technical skills to maintain permanent residency here. Toronto has taken full advantage of this as over half of all residents were born outside of the country – many of those from nations other than their close neighbor to the south.
Housing and office prices are still fairly reasonable compared to similar locations with a large tech infrastructure. There will undoubtedly be a number of individuals and companies who employ and expand fully remote or hybrid options as the region emerges from the pandemic, and expectations are that this will do little to abate the attraction of the region. Indeed, it may very well propel further growth.
Venture funding origins
Toronto has seen an impressive increase in the number and value of collective cash infusions made over the past couple of years. Financial-related companies were at the top of the board – not an overly surprising development given the city’s history of success in that field.
Out of province and out of country venture capitalists have increased their contributions, and there doesn’t appear to be a downturn in sight anytime soon given the steady development of the past decade.
The total capital amount raised by ventures in the region in 2021 was over $5.5 billion – a new record and a 400% increase over the prior year. Quarter one of 2022 saw over $1 billion invested in Toronto area companies thus the slowdown that has hit some regions isn’t quite as apparent here as of yet.
– The approximately $1 billion raised by Toronto area companies in Q2 of 2023 saw a strong increase from the prior quarter which came in at about $120 million. Large deals dominated these rounds but there does seem to be tangible momentum to return to an upward trend in the region.
Technology fields that are garnering cash inflows
Fintech, Security, Biotech, IT Consulting, Adtech, SaaS, and Environmental Services are sectors that have received significant rounds of funding in recent years.
Draws of living in Toronto other than the superb job market
For those seeking a diverse population and the cultural benefits that go along with it the city is certainly top tier. Entertainment of numerous types is readily found from professional sporting events to world-class dining. Safety is also at the highest levels for a city with the population that Toronto maintains.
College and university support
The University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, and others maintain a collection of accelerators, incubators, and entrepreneurship programs that provide a great deal of support and innovation to the Ontario area. Additional programs throughout the region are rapidly growing in number as well.
