Minneapolis-St. Paul still has a relatively low price attached to residing in the area when compared to other locations with a strong technology sector in place. General compensation also vies favorably, with percentages that are well above those in other comparable locales. With the start of 2022 the amount of venture capital raised in the state of Minnesota surpassed the $1 billion mark for the third consecutive year, and the number of deals and investment entities that participated also showed a marked increase. First half numbers for 2022 came in a bit over $900 million for the state thus the slowdown experienced across many sectors hasn’t been quite as pronounced in this region. The primary recipients continue to be early-stage companies.
University of Minnesota and its contribution
A primary supporter of many of the events and growth in the region, the University of Minnesota maintains a venture center, a startup pipeline, and an incubator program along with Launch Minnesota. All of these expand on a Launchpad entity to provide grants, advice, and a scalable ramp up frame to numerous entrepreneurs in the state. St. Olaf College, University of St. Thomas, and other area institutions also offer initiatives and resources for emerging and expanding companies.
