A retained search can be by far the best option when a particular position requires a high degree of confidentiality, is time sensitive, has a number of moving parts or demands a precise type of skillset, and will have influence on the company’s performance well beyond the typical role. We are often asked by high-level potential candidates whether or not we are working on retainer with respect to a particular search we may be discussing. This conveys a strong sense that both parties have put forward significant time and resources to make certain that exceptional people are pursued. It also signifies that our company and the client have entered an agreement that both place a great deal of importance and trust on. This cannot be overemphasized during this type of recruiting activity.
Our difference
Most retained recruiters require three separate payments during the search process – one prior to beginning recruitment for the opening, a second sum after a predetermined number of potential candidates have been presented to the hiring manager for interviews, and a final amount due after the successful individual has started working for the company.
Renascent Solutions approaches retained search in a different manner. We feel that an appropriate and productive construct built around the following schedule works well for all parties involved and gives the employer a bit more flexibility during the process:
Retained Recruitment Structure
• One upfront, non-refundable payment of a percentage of an estimate of the 1st-year salary that the company will offer for the position. The remainder of the actual amount that is offered to the new employee will be made up during the final payment.
• Unlike most retained recruiters, we do not require an additional payment installment after a group of interviewees has been selected and agreed upon or after a preset amount of time has passed in the search process. We trust our judgment and ability to locate and present highly targeted and proven individuals and feel that this supplemental requirement on behalf of the hiring entity is unnecessary.
• A second and final fee due after the successful person has been hired.
