Q2 2024 Venture Capital Funding Activity
A brief synopsis of venture capital events during the second quarter of 2024.
This period saw a rather significant shift in stability in certain sectors across all global regions along with a seemingly cautious optimism amongst those involved in pertinent activities.
Primary notes:
• Total venture funding for this quarter came in at about $70 billion – a number that represents an approximate 5% increase from the previous 3-month time frame.
• 45% of all funding was generated in the US.
• Asia, the Middle East, and India gained traction in fintech, cleantech, and AI.
• AI and Generative AI continued to attract large sums, particularly in the areas of enterprise applications, ethical AI, and edge computing. Series B funding rounds continued to garner a significant portion of cash outlays.
• Cleantech investments made strong gains as global governments continue to increase their commitment to expanding and solidifying their involvement in this arena.
• Early-stage activity in the seed and Series A blocks snapped up 55% of deals made on a global basis. Investors seem to have moved their focus somewhat given more lengthy exit times and valuations that are seemingly more modest than many had expected.
• High interest rates and continued inflation have also increased selectivity when investing funds.
